He grew up in Mississippi and earned a B.S. in History and a B.S. with Honors in Paralegal Studies from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1992 and 1993, respectively. After working as a paralegal for six years, he attended FSU College of Law, where he graduated with highest honors in 2002.

Mr. Schultz worked as professor Charles Ehrhardt’s sole research assistant during all three years of law school and served as Senior Articles Editor for the FSU Law Review. He also served as a board member for the FSU College of Law ACLU. He received 14 "book awards" (for the highest grade in a given course). Mr. Schultz also has twice served as an adjunct professor to the FSU School of Criminology, teaching a graduate course on criminal law and individual rights. He has been elected to the Order of the Coif.

Upon graduation from law school Mr. Schultz worked for two years as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Robert L. Hinkle, U.S. District Judge, Northern District of Florida, in Tallahassee.

Mr. Schultz is a member of the Florida Bar and is licensed to practice law in all Florida state courts as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Florida, Southern District of Florida, and Colorado. He also is admitted to the bars of the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Mr. Schultz's practice focuses on all manner of complex individual and class actions in Florida and nationwide. He serves as court-appointed liaison counsel over all tobacco cases in Florida's First Circuit and his first tobacco trial garnered a $30 million verdict in favor of his client Mathilde Martin against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in June 2009.

He is a former ACLU board member and board member of Emerald Coastkeeper, a local chapter of the national Riverkeepers organization. He lives in Pensacola with his wife, Jennifer, and their two daughters.
