Firm History

McAloon & Friedman was established in 1946. Stanley Friedman, a founding partner, was a trailblazer in the field of medical malpractice defense, known for his keen ability to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the most complex cases.

As the practice grew larger, the firm's presence in the medical malpractice defense field grew stronger. In 1979, Ted Rosenzweig came to the firm from the Kings County District Attorney's office and was made a partner in 1983. Gary Greenfield, who came from the New York County District Attorneys' Office, became an associate with the firm in 1981 and a partner in 1985.

In 1983, Brendan Lantier came to the firm and became a partner in 1988. Lawrence Mumm joined the firm in 1986 and became a partner in 1990. Both Brendan Lantier and Lawrence Mumm came to McAloon & Friedman from the Kings County District Attorney's office. Laura Shapiro, who was Co-Chief of the Medical Malpractice Unit of the Law Department of the City of New York, joined the firm in 1987and became a partner in 1990.

The firm has continued to grow, and several well known lawyers in the field have joined and became partners, including Wayne Roth and Steve York.

The firm's values remain constant: dedication to providing good advice and reliable service.

McAloon & Friedman continues to represent physicians and hospitals insured by all of the major carriers in New York, and serves as counsel to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.

How We Work

Our senior partners each have a minimum of 20 years of experience in the field of medical malpractice defense. Each has an established history of successful trial results. All of our cases are supervised by at least one of our senior partners. Cases are assigned to and managed by a discrete team of attorneys headed by at least one partner.

The firm's trial lawyers are formidable adversaries. We routinely try cases throughout the metropolitan area and enjoy a distinguished record of success, even in the most challenging venues and courts. Our clients are confident that McAloon & Friedman provides skilled representation that serves their needs in accordance with the highest standards of the legal profession.

We excel in the art of settlement negotiation. Our approach to the negotiation of any case is carefully analyzed and discussed with our client. Cases that are appropriate for early settlement are identified and presented to our clients for their consideration.

McAloon & Friedman utilizes a full compliment of resources to provide the best possible defense. We maintain legal brief and expert transcript banks, and possess comprehensive medical and legal libraries. Our fully computerized offices allow us to quickly access medical research as well as other transcripts of our opponents' experts.
