About this firm

McLeod, Alexander, Powel & Apffel, P.C. was established in its current form by V.W. McLeod, Robert Alexander, Ben Powel and Ervin A. Apffel, Jr. in 1965. The firm is known affectionately by its clients as “MAPA.” MAPA is the successor to a long line of law firms that dates back to the first law license ever issued in the State of Texas. From the outset MAPA was not just a Galveston law firm. For example, the former Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company engaged the firm as its “General Attorney” for the entire state of Texas. MAPA developed an enduring reputation for excellence and professionalism.

MAPA's Houston office is now conveniently located in the Post Oak/Galleria area to better serve the Firm's clients in Houston's commercial center.

When the last of the original founders of the Firm retired in 2010 he passed on the Firm's legacy to a newer generation of attorneys who have turned the Firm into a full-fledged 21st Century law firm. The traditions of professionalism and striving for excellence in all that MAPA does, however, remains a bedrock of the Firm.
