About this firm

Powered by more than a century of combined legal experience we stand able and ready to meet the challenges of individuals' needs throughout our community. Our firm specializes in serving individual clients, and focuses on providing legal solutions in family law, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, taxation, trusts & estates, probate law and litigation. Our attorneys practice in courts throughout Massachusetts, including courts in Suffolk County, Middlesex County, Norfolk County, Bristol County, Essex County, Plymouth County, Dukes County, Nantucket County and Barnstable County. Sharing their expertise, our attorneys publish scholarly articles and books, lecture, serve in leadership positions and provide assistance to needy individuals in the Metro Boston area and throughout our Commonwealth.

In May 1994, three principal members of a Boston law firm decided to rely on their common goals and beliefs, combine their knowledge and experience, and branch out on their own. From that simple yet challenging decision, S&F came into being. Founded in June 1994 by Mary H. Schmidt, Phyllis E. Federico, and the late Richard D. Packenham, S&F has since almost tripled its legal work force and moved to an office in Boston 's historic Back Bay.

The firm of Schmidt & Federico, P.C. has earned the AV® Rating in the Martindale-Hubbell® Bar Register of Pre-Eminent Lawyers and has therefore been designated by their colleagues as pre-eminent in their field.
