About this firm

The Mills Firm is a law firm that focuses on appellate litigation in Florida's state and federal courts. The firm handles appeals in nearly all areas of the law. For personal injury and wrongful death cases, the firm exclusively represents the injured and their families, but in other civil cases, the firm represents a wide range of businesses, individuals, and organizations. The firm also handles appeals involving family disputes, such as divorce, support modification, child custody, adoption, and trust and probate matters. Its criminal practice is largely by court appointment with an emphasis on death penalty litigation.

The firms' lawyers have argued and won in the Supreme Court of the United States, the Eleventh Circuit, the Supreme Court of Florida, and all five of Florida's district courts of appeal. Some of the state's best trial lawyers retain the firm early in the trial process to help best position the case for ultimate success on appeal, but the firm does not directly handle trial litigation. The firm is occasionally retained based on direct client inquiries, but the vast majority of the time, the firm is associated by trial counsel.

While its fees tend to be at the very top of the market, the firm also has a deep commitment to both pro bono and "low bono" (reduced fee) work for those otherwise unable to afford legal representation. Due to overwhelming demand, the firm accepts such matters almost exclusively by court appointment or referral from a recognized legal aid organization. Potential clients in search of pro bono counsel are encouraged to contact their local legal aid organization, instead of contacting the firm directly.
