| Biography | Michael R. Fruehwald is retired of counsel in the Indianapolis, Indiana office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He is past chairman of the firm's Litigation Department. His practice is concentrated in the areas of commercial and complex litigation. As national counsel for certain clients in product liability matters, he has dealt with class actions and federal multi-district proceedings. He also has significant experience in litigation involving securities, antitrust, commercial class actions, duties of corporate directors and officers, and environmental liabilities and injury claims arising from toxic substances, as well as insurance coverage for these and other liabilities. He is very familiar with various forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), having served as an arbitrator in addition to being an advocate in ADR proceedings. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Commercial Litigation. Mr. Fruehwald graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington, obtaining his A.B. in 1970 and his J.D. magna cum laude in 1973. He was a member of the board of editors of the Indiana Law Journal. He joined Barnes & Thornburg in 1973 and became a partner in 1980. He is a member of the American, Indiana State, Indianapolis, and 7th Circuit Bar Associations. Mr. Fruehwald is admitted to practice in Indiana; the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana; the United States Circuit Courts for the 3rd, 5th, and 7th Circuits; the United States Tax Court; the United States Court of Claims; and the United States Supreme Court. |
