Biography

Andrew B. Howie is a West Des Moines, Iowa attorney who focuses primarily on appellate law, family law, divorce, custody, and complex litigation matters. He is a shareholder with Shindler, Anderson, Goplerud & Weese, P.C. and has practiced law in Polk County since 1997. Howie is widely known for his prolific appellate work, having appeared in more than 300 federal and Iowa appellate court rulings. He has also handled hundreds of family law matters at the trial-court level, including divorce, custody, visitation, and other domestic relations cases.

He is a: Fellow, American Academy of Appellate Lawyers; Fellow, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; Board Certified Advocate in Family Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy; Former Chair and Vice-Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association Family and Juvenile Law Section; Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association Appellate Practice Committee; and Member of numerous state and national legal organizations.

Howie authored the "Iowa Family Law" published by LEXIS/MEXIS. a frequently used resource for Iowa family law practitioners and judges. He has also presented numerous continuing legal education seminars on appellate advocacy, family law, alimony, custody, and related topics.
