Ashley L. Joines is an associate in the firm’s Asheville office. Her practice focuses on appellate matters, general liability, governmental liability, medical malpractice, and professional malpractice and ethics.
Before joining Hall Booth Smith as an associate, Ashley served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Jeffery Carpenter at the North Carolina Court of Appeals. In that role, she drafted judicial opinions, conducted in-depth legal research, and presented recommendations on pending appeals. Ashley returns to Hall Booth Smith after previously working for the firm as a summer associate, where she contributed to both trial and appellate matters.
Ashley also served as a full-time Judicial Resident for the Honorable Joi Elizabeth Peake in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. There, she drafted memorandum opinions and orders, and observed a wide range of civil and criminal proceedings. In addition, Ashley gained experience in complex civil litigation through her work as a summer clerk for the Consumer Protection and Antitrust division of the South Carolina Office of the Attorney General.
Ashley earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Elon University School of Law, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Elon Law Review. While in law school, she published a law review note, worked as a Torts Teaching Assistant, participated in moot court, and was a director of the student mentoring program. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with honors, from Clemson University, with a minor in Biological Sciences. In her free time, Ashley enjoys baking, reading, cheering for the Clemson Tigers, and spending time with her family.
