Biography

Edward Fenno is the founder and Managing Member of Fenno Law Firm, LLC. His practice focuses on media, Internet, intellectual property, technology and entertainment law – including litigation and transactional matters involving defamation, privacy, newsgathering, copyright, trademark, computer software, website and music legal issues. In addition, Mr. Fenno is experienced in litigating business, contract and Constitutional law matters. Mr. Fenno is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Southern California School of Law. He is rated AV Preeminent® since 2013 by Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in American Law. He is also a former journalist and professional tennis player.

Prior to forming the Fenno Law Firm in 2006, Mr. Fenno practiced at Moore & Van Allen in Charleston for six years and in Los Angeles for five years at the law firms of Musick, Peeler & Garrett and Bostwick & Hoffman. Mr. Fenno was a co-chair of the Newsgathering Committee of the Media Law Resource Center from to 2018-2022, and has lectured nationally on newsgathering issues and other news media law topics. He has also lectured on Internet law numerous times, including to the South Carolina Press Association, South Carolina Broadcasters Association and Charleston Lawyers Club; on copyright and trademark law; and on entertainment law for the South Carolina Bar.

Mr. Fenno is the co-author of “Protection Under CDA § 230 and Responsibility for ‘Development’ of Third-Party Content,” 28 Communications Lawyer 2 (August, 2011) and author of “Public Figure Libel: The Premium on Ignorance and the Race to the Bottom,” 4 Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal 253 (1995). He also authored “Federal Internet Privacy Law,” 12 South Carolina Lawyer 36 (January/February, 2001) and “Freelancers Win Electronic Republication Appeal,” South Carolina Press Association Bulletin (July 17, 2001); and has authored columns in Carolina Arts newspaper on the subject of copyright and related legal issues for visual artists.
