Biography

Former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury George Muñoz is recognized as one of the nation's top international and business attorneys. He has more than 20 years experience in corporate and commercial transactions, especially in international business and legal matters. He has structured deals and overseen negotiations worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and has extensive experience in dispute resolution.

Mr. Muñoz became of counsel to the firm in 2000. In 2003, Mr. Muñoz became a partner in the firm after he completed his service as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Overseas Private Investment Corp (OPIC) (1997-2001). OPIC is the United States agency that provides financing and political risk insurance to U.S. firms operating overseas. He expanded OPIC to developing countries around the world including those in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Southeastern Europe, including Russia. Muñoz was responsible for overseeing OPIC's 18 billion dollar portfolio.

Prior to Muñoz' service at OPIC he was appointed by President Clinton and confirmed by the United States Senate to the position of Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Secretary of the United States Department of Treasury (1993-1997).

Prior to leaving for Washington to serve President Clinton, Muñoz had a law firm, George Muñoz & Associates, which had a strategic alliance with Craig D. Tobin & Associates. Muñoz was the past President of the Chicago Board of Education (1984-1986).

Muñoz' unique expertise has allowed the firm to expand its national and international business consultation and litigation services. George Muñoz has a hands-on understanding of government affairs and public policy--both foreign and domestic. When the President of the United States, the Mayor of Chicago, and major multinational corporations are presented with challenges, they have turned to George Muñoz for solutions.

Recognized as among the top 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States, Muñoz is on the Board of Directors of some of the world's most respected corporations, including Marriott International, Anixter International, M.W.H., Board of Governors, Certified Financial Planners Board of Standards, National Geographic Society, and Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives. Muñoz has been involved in structured deals overseeing negotiations worth hundred of millions of dollars. He has extensive experience in the area of dispute resolution. Muñoz' unique expertise and background allowed the firm to expand its interest areas and has helped distinguish it as one of the premier law firms in the nation.

Muñoz has relationships with key government and business leaders throughout the United States and Latin America. In Chicago, Muñoz served as the President of the Chicago Board of Education (1984-1986), and as a member of several Chicago boards and commissions including the Chicago Economic Development Commission and the Illinois International Port Authority.

In Washington, DC, Muñoz has worked closely with the leadership of the US Congress, the Executive Branch and with many representatives of foreign governments. Muñoz understands the interworkings of the US Export-Import Bank, OPIC, the Inter-American Development Bank, International Finance Corporation, the World Bank and other international financial institutions. Mr. Muñoz has taught international business courses at Georgetown University.
