Biography

Pat Weir is a senior partner and leads the Vogel Law Firm’s wrongful death and personal injury practice groups. Since 1990, Pat has represented only those individuals and families who have suffered serious or fatal injuries because of another’s conduct. During his career, Pat has secured hundreds of millions of dollars in verdicts and out-of-court settlements for his clients’ personal injury and wrongful death claims. Most of Pat’s experience comes from handling commercial truck accident deaths and injuries, motor vehicle fatalities and injuries, pedestrian and bicycle fatalities and injuries, and from representing the families of those injured or killed in oilfield accidents or explosions in the Bakken in Western North Dakota.

While Pat practices primarily in North Dakota and Minnesota, he has also represented clients and prosecuted cases throughout the United States, including South Dakota, Montana, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Arizona, Florida, and North Carolina.

Pat received his undergraduate degree in 1985 from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, and is a 1989 graduate of the University of Denver – College of Law. He is also a past adjunct professor of litigation at Minnesota State University – Moorhead, Minnesota. Among other awards, Pat has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America as the personal injury “Lawyer of the Year” on four separate occasions: 2014, 2015, 2021, and 2026, and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer every year since 2012.

Pat’s work has given him broad experience in litigating all aspects of insurance coverage disputes for wrongful death and injury cases, including, among other things, umbrella or excess coverages, liability coverages, underinsured motorist coverage, and uninsured motorist coverages,

Pat and his wife have four grown children, and he enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren, playing hockey, downhill skiing, reading, and golfing.
