Some of the work Heather is most proud of is her pro bono work on behalf of domestic violence survivors and detained asylum seekers. She received an award for outstanding community service from the LA County Superior Court for her more than a decade long pro bono work with abuse survivors, helping them obtain restraining orders. She has also volunteered her time representing asylum seekers in Immigration Court and in detention centers for Catholic Charities’ Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project, the Immigrant Justice Campaign, has represented unaccompanied children in removal proceedings for KIND (Kids in Need of Defense), as well as assisted low-income LGBT immigrants for the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
In her “spare” time, she teaches Immigration Law at Fullerton College and scuba dives, skis and snowboards, tries not to cut off a finger in her woodworking projects, and hangs with her pack - her labradoodle Patrick and cats Zorro, Xena, and Peanut.
