Biography

John Howley, Esq. is a trial lawyer with almost 30 years of experience. He represents clients in sexual harassment, employment discrimination, and unpaid wages and overtime cases. He also represents whistleblowers who are entitled to financial rewards and protection from retaliation for reporting fraud.

His significant cases include an $80 million victory in a race discrimination class action against Sodexho Marriott, an $800,000 victory in an individual employment discrimination case for a live-in nanny, and a labor arbitration victory that awarded New York City police officers higher raises than firefighters for the first time in 100 years. He has argued in the U.S. Supreme Court and tried cases before juries throughout the United States.

Honors and Awards: John has received The Thurgood Marshall Award from the New York City Bar Association, The Medal for Excellence in Advocacy from the American College of Trial Lawyers, and The Gideon Champion of Justice Award from the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has also been named one of New York's SuperLawyers.

Education and Experience: John graduated from Skidmore College and earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from New York Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the Law Review. He served as a research assistant to U.S. District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin, as an intern to U.S. District Judge Kevin Thomas Duffy, and as a law clerk to U.S. Circuit Judge Roger J. Miner on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. For 20 years, he represented corporate clients at the law firm of Kaye Scholer LLP, where he became a partner in the firm's litigation department and chairman of the firm’s pro bono committee.

Dedicated to Protecting Individual Rights: After 20 years representing multinational corporations, John formed The Howley Law Firm to provide individuals with the same level of expertise and aggressive advocacy.
