Biography

Jordan Shea is a partner at Williams Barber & Morel LTD. and a member of the firm’s commercial litigation, toxic tort, class action, product liability, and labor and employment practice groups. He has represented clients at arbitration and trial in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Jordan is “AV Preeminent” peer review rated by Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest peer recognition for both ethical standards and legal ability. He has also been selected as a Law Bulletin Emerging Lawyer and was named an Illinois Super Lawyer Rising Star. Jordan joined the firm in 2007.

Mr. Shea's extensive trial experience makes him an asset to each of the practice groups where he focuses his attention. In the commercial litigation group, he represented a major U.S. appliance manufacturer in a complex legal malpractice action against the manufacturer’s former counsel and tried the case to jury verdict. He has secured a complete defense verdict in jury trial involving allegations of Equal Pay Act violation and Title VII sex discrimination. On behalf of a corporate plaintiff in a breach-of-contract action, he won a jury verdict for all damages requested.

Mr. Shea has defended manufacturers and other businesses in toxic tort cases involving mass salmonella poisoning and asbestos exposure. He has also defended self-insured product liability clients in aviation, riding tractors and mowers, power tools, and other consumer goods industries in claims involving serious personal injury and property damage.

Representative Matters: Del Monte Fresh Produce, N.A. v. Kinnavy v. Chiquita Brands International: Successfully defended former employee of Del Monte and Chiquita Brands in trade secret, nondisclosure agreement and non-compete lawsuit with client awarded full defense costs through corporate advancement and indemnity.; Quality Egg National Class Action: Represented seller of eggs following recall of 380 million eggs in a highly publicized national class action alleging salmonella poisoning. Plaintiffs' counsel dismissed case and never refiled after we requested severe sanctions for misconduct.; False Claims Act Victory: Secured $85 million settlement on behalf of the U.S. government representing qui tam plaintiff after the United States declined to intervene in case involving Medicare and Medicaid fraud through unreported kickbacks to medical providers.; Whirlpool Corporation v. Sensata Technologies, Inc. and Texas Instruments Inc.: Represented consumer product manufacturer Whirlpool in product liability lawsuit brought against supplier to recover damages caused by recall of 1.8 million refrigerators. Successfully resolved on eve of trial.; Chicago Police Board Administrative Hearings: Represented the City of Chicago in full administrative trials against police officers accused of misconduct, including high-profile cases of officers accused of issuing harassing and fraudulent parking tickets, known in the media as 'ticketgate,' and officers accused of covering up bribes from tow-truck drivers, as revealed in FBI probe.; Equal Pay Act Trial: Achieved jury verdict in favor of employer on claim brought under Equal Pay Act and won summary judgment on Title VII sex discrimination claim.
