Maia Botero is an associate in the Miami office of Hall Booth Smith, where her practice focuses on entertainment law, specifically fashion and creator law. She advises emerging brands, digital creators, and entrepreneurs on the legal and business issues shaping today’s evolving marketplace. Her work includes drafting and negotiating influencer and management agreements, brand collaborations, licensing arrangements, and other commercial contracts, as well as advising on intellectual property protection and brand strategy. In addition to her entertainment practice, Maia represents clients in a variety of civil litigation matters, including medical malpractice defense, premises liability, and other complex disputes.
Maia brings a strong foundation in dispute resolution and advocacy to her practice. Before joining HBS, she worked at JAMS, where she coordinated mediations and arbitrations involving complex commercial disputes, giving her practical insight into how business conflicts develop and how they can be resolved efficiently. Her litigation experience informs her strategic and business-minded approach to advising entertainment and fashion clients, particularly when disputes arise involving contracts, brand partnerships, or intellectual property rights.
During law school, Maia gained experience in real estate, criminal defense, and public interest advocacy, developing courtroom and negotiation skills that continue to shape her practice today. She first joined HBS as a summer associate, assisting with research and drafting across multiple practice areas while developing her focus on expanding the firm’s presence in the fashion and creator space.
Maia earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, concentrating in litigation and dispute resolution.
While in law school, she co-founded and served as President of the Fashion Law Society, where she organized panels and networking events connecting students with fashion, entertainment, and intellectual property practitioners. She also served as President of the Yvette Ostolaza Mock Trial Team and as a senator for the Student Bar Association. Her achievements include the Alan Ross Memorial Scholarship, honors in the Trial and Pretrial Litigation Skills Program, the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers Civic Involvement Scholarship, recognition as a quarterfinalist in the Chester Bedell Trial Competition, and selection to the Order of Barristers.
A Miami native and proud first-generation Latina attorney of Colombian heritage, Maia is passionate about helping founders and talent build protected and sustainable brands.
