Biography

I became a lawyer because I could not stand inequity. Unfortunately, not many things in life are fair and certainly not in our judicial system. When I was growing up, almost every fight I got into was protecting someone getting bullied, which is what our justice system will do to you if you do not have a good lawyer. Furthermore, I am still an athlete and have been my whole life. I even played baseball at Texas Tech for 4 years. To be a good athlete, you have to be competitive. You have to want to win. As a lawyer, I want to win. I am obsessive in the way I prepare for a case for trial, I want to win. It is my belief that the keys to winning at trial is first of all, knowing “when to hold them and when to fold them”, and preparation and more preparation. It also helps to have tried hundreds of criminal jury trials, and even more contested divorce trials before the court. I have over 40 years’ experience. I practice on helping clients throughout Denton, Tarrant, Dallas, Wise, Collin, and Cooke Counties of Texas in criminal defense and family law matters, estate planning and probate. I am a Specialist in Criminal Law, as certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In recognition of my work, I have been selected for: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 National Academy of Jurisprudence Premier 100 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 National League of Renowned Attorneys Top 1% 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 Client Satisfaction for American Institue of Criminal Law Attorneys 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 Top 100 Trial Lawyers  2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020  America's Most Honored Professionals Top 5% Lifetime Member of Best Law Firms in America Lifetime Charter Member of Rue Ratings Best Attorneys of America I earned my Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University, and I was admitted to practice in Texas, I formerly served as an Associate Municipal Judge in Denton, formerly served as a judge in Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, and Lewisville, and was a Valley View city attorney for two years. I also am an active membership in a number of professional organizations, including the Texas Criminal Defense lawyers Association; the Denton County Criminal Bar Association, of which I am a past President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer; Denton County Bar Association (Past Secretary/Treasurer and Board Member); and the College of the State Bar of Texas. Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children and participating in church activities. My Christian foundations are reflected in my law practice in my steadfast commitment to communicating honestly with my clients throughout their representation.
