  • Before joining the firm in 2014, Mark Baker was an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico. During his time as a federal prosecutor, Mr. Baker had primary responsibility for prosecuting all criminal civil rights cases in New Mexico and was lead trial counsel in jury trials involving a range of violent felonies. Mr. Baker has served as Chair of the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the District of New Mexico since 2010. He has also taught Evidence & Trial Practice and Advanced Evidence & Trail Practice as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mr. Baker spent eight years in civil practice, first as an associate with Morrison & Foerster LLP, in Denver, Colorado, and later as an associate and then partner with Long, Pound & Komer, P.A. in his hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico. His work during this time period included securities litigation, antitrust, business disputes, civil rights, university faculty disputes and other employment law matters. Mr. Baker has argued and briefed criminal and civil cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, the New Mexico Supreme Court, and the New Mexico Court of Appeals. He began his career as a law clerk to United States District Judge Bruce D. Black. A 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Mr. Baker served on the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review and published a note in that journal in the field of federal Indian law.

Mark Baker joined Peifer, Hanson & Mullins, P.A., as a shareholder from the U.S. Attorney's Office, where he prosecuted criminal civil rights cases and violent felonies. Mr. Baker's practice focuses on wrongful death and injury cases, commercial litigation, criminal law, and civil rights. A native of Santa Fe, Mr. Baker graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2002 and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1999. While in law school, Mr. Baker was on the editorial board of the Virginia Law Review and published a note in that journal.
