Biography

Attorney Phylicia M. Powers, a native of Duplin County, North Carolina, brings a wealth of experience and commitment to her criminal defense practice. A graduate of The Williams School and the University of Maryland at College Park, she earned her Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2011, where she actively participated in advocacy competitions. Before establishing her private firm, Attorney Powers served for eight years as an Assistant Public Defender in Durham, representing both juvenile and adult clients across a broad spectrum of criminal cases, from misdemeanors to serious felonies. In addition to her legal work, she is dedicated to education, serving as an adjunct professor and trial team coach at NCCU School of Law and previously teaching at Strayer University. Recognized by the National Black Lawyers’ Association as one of the Top 100 Lawyers, she remains actively involved in professional organizations and community service. Attorney Powers is also a proud member and leader within Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Her comprehensive background in advocacy, education, and community engagement positions her as a trusted and dynamic legal advocate.
