Biography

Steven Messick is a Minnesota trial attorney and mediator with more than 17 years of experience resolving high-stakes disputes. In 2026 he was named to the Minnesota Super Lawyers Top 100 list. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyer every year since 2021 and holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest peer rating for legal ability and ethics.

Steven represents clients in probate and civil litigation, with a focus on trust and estate disputes, guardianship and conservatorship, and matters involving real property. He also serves as a neutral mediator, partition referee, special master, and adjudicator in alternative dispute proceedings. Clients turn to him for clear, practical counsel and for an advocate who is ready to try the case when resolution isn’t possible.

Steven began his legal career as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Thomas M. Neuville (Rice County, Retired). He serves on the Board of Trustees of Mitchell Hamline School of Law and Chair of the Minnesota Supreme Court Board of Continuing Legal Education. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota and North Dakota, the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Before law school, Steven was an assistant to a U.S. Congressman and later advised state and federal candidates and officeholders.

Steven lives in Woodbury, Minnesota, with his wife and three children.
