Biography

Background and Experience: TJ Von Wald joined the firm’s Litigation Section in 2012 after practicing with another Sioux Falls law firm for over six years. Before starting in private practice, he clerked for three circuit judges in the First Judicial Circuit of South Dakota. Since being admitted to practice law, TJ has developed his litigation practice and successfully tried cases in the courts of South Dakota regarding employment matters, contract disputes, family law matters and criminal defense. He has also defended numerous claims against contractors and business owners ranging from wage disputes to fraud claims.

TJ has:•Represented Employers and Insurers in all aspects of workers’ compensation matters•Represented plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury claims•Represented clients regarding enforcement of employment agreements and covenants not to compete•Represented employers in various discrimination and sexual harassment claims•Defended various medical malpractice claims against health care providers•Defended nursing home facilities in negligence actions•Represented numerous criminal defendants in federal felony charges•First-chaired jury and court trials throughout South Dakota•Conducted administrative hearings regarding unemployment benefits and wrongful terminations•Drafted appellate briefs to the South Dakota Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit
