Biography

Des Moines divorce attorney Tyler J. Johnston understands divorce is a difficult time in a person’s life. It can be a confusing and stressful situation. It is his goal to eliminate as much of that tension as possible.

“When minor children are involved, that stress is even worse,” Mr. Johnston said. “As a father myself, I understand how important a child custody case is to a parent.”

Mr. Johnston is naturally empathetic and can put himself in someone else’s situation and understand what they are going through.

“I listen with empathy and advocate zealously,” he said.

He is honest with his clients because he knows that part of being a good litigator is seeing where the weaknesses in a case are and doing everything possible to minimize those issues. “Being honest with a client and making sure they understand the situation and what to expect in the process makes a very stressful situation a little bit easier,” he said.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Cordell & Cordell, Mr. Johnston was a partner in a general practice law firm in West Des Moines, Iowa, focusing on family law, business law, and personal injury cases for more than 12 years. Prior to that, he was an assistant county attorney in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

The determination of the need for legal services and the choice of a lawyer are extremely important decisions and should not be based solely upon advertisements, certification, specialization or self-proclaimed expertise. A description or indication of limitation of practice does not mean that any agency or board has certified such lawyers as specialist or expert in an indicated field of law practice nor does it mean that such lawyer is necessarily any more expert or competent than any other lawyer. All potential clients are urged to make their own independent investigation and evaluation of any lawyer being considered. These disclosures are required by the Supreme Court of Iowa.
