Black Lung

The Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969 allows disabled miners who have been diagnosed with coal workers’ pneumoconiosis, also known as black lung disease, to collect monthly compensation and medical benefits. Additionally, a surviving spouse, a surviving divorced spouse and certain surviving children may also be entitled to benefits. Whether you are initiating a Black Lung Benefits Act claim or have been referred to the Office of Administrative Law Judges, the U.S. Department of Labor recommends that claimants retain an attorney or law firm with experience handling black lung claims. Your lawyer can prepare your claim, represent you at hearings and advocate on your behalf for the maximum benefits allowed by law.
