Civil Practice

Civil law is the branch of the U.S. legal system that deals with non-criminal legal matters. An attorney with a civil practice primarily deals with preventing legal disputes between parties (often with the assistance of contracts and other types of legal agreements) and resolving disagreements when they do occur. If a legal disputes ends up in court, the rules and standards that govern the court as well as the lawyers and parties involved in the case are codified in a body of law known as civil procedure. Experienced civil practice lawyers will be thoroughly familiar with the civil procedures in the courts in which they appear.
