Ports and Shipping

Beginning with Michael DeCotiis’s tenure as Deputy Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, DeCotiis lawyers have long been in the forefront of the legal issues involved in the shipping and port industries. Whether the issues are administrative, environmental, contractual, or involve labor and employment issues, our attorneys know the shipping and ports industry intimately, and have effectively served many of its companies.

We provide legal counsel and strategic advisory services to shipowners, charterers, insurers, freight forwarders, ship agents and brokers, container companies, financial institutions and government entities. Our expertise ranges from the largest commercial disputes and finance projects to the most routine freight and debt collections. We have also participated in numerous dispute resolutions, including both in court and in arbitration proceedings of all types, as well as handling labor and environmental matters.

Many of the leading firms in the industry have relied on DeCotiis for our judgment, knowledge and efficiency. From the most complex policy issue to the most straightforward dispute, we are one of the region’s leaders in the highly specialized law governing the business of ports and shipping.
