Class Action Litigation

Our Class Action Litigation attorneys have broad experience in all aspects of Class Action Litigation, and are adept at managing expansive cases requiring sophisticated expert testimony and significant electronic discovery. We frequently serve as local, regional, or national counsel for manufacturers facing class action litigation arising from products alleged to be defective or hazardous. In addition, we routinely represent clients in class action cases involving state and federal unfair competition and consumer fraud statutes. Our attorneys have also been successful in opposing requests for class certification. In all such cases, we develop and implement innovative defense strategies, such as the use of a four-day summary jury trial to favorably resolve a nationwide class action.

Over the years, we have defended clients facing class action litigation across the country, including in California, New Jersey, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, and Alabama. Representative cases have involved pharmaceutical agents, medical devices and products (including prescription medications, pacemaker leads, ultrasonic scalers, and cardiac stents), consumer products (including animal health products, software, and chicken labeled as antibiotic-free), and other allegedly defective, hazardous, or mislabeled products.

Diversity

Goodell DeVries is committed to maintaining a legal team reflective of the clients and communities we serve. To that end, the firm’s Recruiting Committee and Diversity Committee work together to attract a diverse group of qualified attorneys and other legal professionals. The firm as a whole focuses on retaining, mentoring and advancing such individuals without regard to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age or gender.

Attorneys at Goodell DeVries actively seek out opportunities to participate in and sponsor programs that celebrate diversity, such as mentoring minority students at local law schools, teaching at historically minority-based universities, and participating in diversity programs sponsored by our clients and other organizations. Goodell DeVries was a proud underwriter of the Maryland Defense Counsel, Inc.'s "Great Strides, Great Struggles: The Continuing Case for Diversity 70 Years after Murray" program, for which the organization won the Defense Research Institute's Diversity Award. One of our partners, a member of the Maryland Defense Counsel's Board of Directors, was instrumental in presenting the program.

The firm believes that our inclusive professional environment, emphasizing diverse backgrounds, cultures, life experiences and perspectives, not only enriches our legal team on an intrapersonal level, but also enhances the quality of the legal services we provide.
