Appellate

When the time comes to appeal, having an attorney on your side with expertise and experience in the appellate process can make all the difference in achieving a positive result. Whitaker Chalk will represent you from pre-trial to the completion of all appeals at all appellate levels. We handle all areas of appellate practice, including administrative agency appeals (state and federal), arbitration award appeals, original appellate proceedings, direct appeals to the Texas and Federal appellate courts, petitions to the Texas Supreme Court and writs of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court.

We combine experienced appellate lawyers with appellate court staff and lawyers who have experience in the litigation subject matter. This integrated, case-based approach usually begins early in the trial process. Appellate lawyers are brought in during litigation to handle research and briefing to the trial court. Often, they assist the litigation team throughout the trial on summary judgment and drafting the jury charge. Following judgment, the appellate team can file an appeal or a petition for review with the Texas Supreme Court. By combining trial and appellate lawyers into a cohesive team, Whitaker Chalk can meet your appellate needs no matter how complex they are.

The scope of our appellate practice encompasses a broad subject-matter spectrum involving commercial, intellectual property, employment, real property, eminent domain, insurance, medical malpractice and personal injury issues.
