About this firm

At Hampton & Royce, L.C., we have been helping Kansas families, farms, and businesses for over 125 years. Our lawyers combine big-firm know-how with a comfortable family feel. We are there for our clients no matter what their legal needs, sometimes for generations.

A Long-Standing Reputation for Legal Excellence

When you reach out to Hampton & Royce, you are connecting to a long-standing tradition of high quality legal service. We have the honor of being the oldest continuously operating law firm in Kansas. The firm was one of the first law firms established in the State of Kansas, opening its doors in 1885 under the name Bishop & Burch. While the name has changed over the last 125 years, our commitment to our clients has not.

Our legal staff has included fathers and sons, experienced attorneys and new lawyers, and represents a combination of over 300 years of legal experience. Our senior partner, C. Stanley Nelson, has been with the firm for over 65 years. We understand the importance of history and tradition. We have been honored to represent generations of clients, providing them stability as businesses, farms, and personal estates passed from parent to child.

Putting Broad Expertise At Your Service

At one time, Hampton & Royce had the distinction of owning the largest law library west of the Mississippi River. This collection represents the broad knowledge that our attorneys bring to our clients' aid. As technology has evolved, many of our resources have moved online. But our commitment to understanding our clients' needs and having access to extensive legal resources remains. No matter how complicated your legal problem, our legal staff will help you find an answer.

Representing Families Across Central and Northwest Kansas

It can be difficult to find sophisticated legal representation in some more rural parts of Kansas, but it can also be difficult for attorneys in large cities to understand small town and rural life. We connect with local lawyers across the state, both in smaller communities and larger cities, to provide support for clients. Located on the ninth and tenth floors in the United Building in the heart of Salina, Kansas, Hampton & Royce represents clients north to the Nebraska state line, from Manhattan to Council Grove, and west to the Colorado state line.

Our lawyers travel across the state to help our business clients meet their goals. We also have attorneys licensed to practice in Colorado and Iowa, should your legal needs require it. Our family law attorneys are also experienced in practicing in front of Judges through out the north and north central region and are willing to travel to assist clients as necessary. Our personal injury attorneys are also willing to travel and meet your needs, even if it means meeting you at home or in the hospital.

Comfortable Family Feel

Even though we are a relatively large law firm for our area, at Hampton & Royce, we want our clients to be comfortable. We pride ourselves on creating a family feeling among our staff and with the individuals and families we represent. While maintaining our professionalism in the courtroom, we understand that sometimes it doesn't take a suit to be a lawyer.
