About this firm

Our firm has long been associated with quality, professional legal service provided in a personal way. We're particularly proud of the fact that our clients are the greatest source of our referrals, and that we have helped two, three and even four generations of families with their legal needs.

We trace our beginnings to 1900 when Charles E. Bostwick, a prominent Rochester attorney, opened a law practice dedicated to serving individuals and small businesses in the Greater Rochester area.

In 1926, Ira H. Morris, the first of three generations of Morris attorneys, joined the Bostwick firm. He was well known as a skilled, hard-working lawyer who stayed in close contact with his clients, and he quickly gained prominence as a trial attorney.

Ira Morris assumed a leadership role in the firm in 1945. His own three sons - Stephen, Richard, and James - joined the firm between 1958 and 1967, and the practice was renamed Morris & Morris. Ira Morris died in 1990, but attorneys in our firm continue to adhere to what he called our most important rule - "treat clients as you would wish to be treated."

In 2003, Deborah Morris Field - a third-generation lawyer in the Morris family and the daughter of James Morris - joined our practice. The Morris & Morris partnership now consists of James E. Morris and Deborah Morris Field.
