About this firm

A graduate of Yale College and a Law Review graduate of the Hofstra University School of Law, Neil Cahn has practiced law on Long Island for more than 30 years.

Mr. Cahn's practice is concentrated in divorce in both familial and commercial settings. In the family context, Mr. Cahn represents clients with issues relating to the division of property, spousal and child support issues; custody, visitation and other parenting issues, and estate disputes. In the commercial area Mr. Cahn is involved with the dissolution of business entities, disputes between partners or other co-owners, employer/employee issues, and similar matters.

Of course, contested disputes may be avoided through proper planning and agreements. With families, these include prenuptial, post-nuptial and separation agreements and divorce stipulations of settlement. In commercial settings, these agreements include partnership and shareholder agreements, employment agreements, severance plans, etc.

Neil Cahn is engaged in dispute resolution through litigation in court, and by alternative dispute resolution through arbitration, mediation, or collaboration. Mr. Cahn has been certified in the Collaborative Divorce process by the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and in Family Mediation by the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center and the Mediation Institute of New York. Mr. Cahn is active in promoting the use of the Collaborative Law Process in New York as a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals and of Collaborative Dispute Resolutions. These organizations promote the interdisciplinary settlement of conflicts using lawyers, financial experts and mental health professionals.
