About this firm

Founded in 1990 by Mark Lanier, The Lanier Law Firm is committed to addressing client concerns with effective and often untraditional solutions. Our clients, as diverse as they are, all have one common trait: they need serious and sound legal representation, whether they are physically injured or in the midst of a business dispute.

The firm is composed of outstanding trial attorneys with decades of trial experience. Firm founder Mark Lanier is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, as is attorney Larry Wilson. And, because so many cases are ultimately won or lost on appeal, Kevin Parker is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Our vast trial experience includes cases involving pharmaceutical liability, asbestos exposure, business fraud, serious personal injuries, product liability, and toxic exposure. In fact, we recently earned international headlines for winning the first trial in the nation involving the controversial drug VIOXX. Mr. Lanier represented Carol Ernst, who claimed that negligence by the drug's manufacturer caused the death of her husband, Robert.

We are also noted for our work defending some of the country's largest companies. One Fortune 500 company chose The Lanier Law Firm to help overturn a $1.6 billion default judgment. In that case our client had been sued for failure to warn its customers about the dangers of its asbestos-containing product. The default judgment was entered after the company failed to answer the lawsuit in a timely manner. After The Lanier Law Firm was hired, the default judgment was overturned and the matter was resolved.

In our view, this case was remarkable not only for the size of the default judgment, but also because The Lanier Law Firm was hired by a company that it had also sued. Because the default judgment endangered the solvency of a corporation that had agreed to provide financial compensation to thousands of asbestos claimants, our firm felt that it was in the best interests of our clients to represent the asbestos manufacturer.

Although significant legal victories are a trademark of The Lanier Law Firm, our primary focus remains, in the words of Mark Lanier, "to provide the highest quality legal care delivered in an honest, professional manner to enrich the lives or businesses of our clients."

Because of this vision, the attorney-client relationship begins with the initial consultation. At this meeting we will review the nuts and bolts of the client's legal problems, as well as clearly explain what is expected of the client and, in turn, what the client can expect from us.

Fortunately, not all cases have to go to trial. Our experience and ability enables many cases to be settled out of court. But when a trial is necessary, our in-house attorney/trial psychologist provides insight into trial psychology and jury selection. Our appellate attorneys also stay one step ahead by preparing clients' cases for appeal before an appeal is filed.

Our attorneys realize that this may be our clients' first involvement in the legal system, which can be intimidating and confusing. But navigating that maze is our job, and zealously representing our clients' interests is our sole mission.
