About this firm

The firm is one of the oldest law firms in Eureka, founded about 1915 as Nelson & Ricks. James Henderson joined the firm after the end of World War II. In 1945, Emery Mitchell entered a partnership with James Henderson, commencing the name of Mitchell & Henderson. Emery's son, Clifford B. Mitchell, joined the firm in 1950, and under his guidance, the firm grew to be one of the largest firms in Eureka. Today, Clifford Mitchell remains associated with the firm. Six partners primarily serve the Northern California Counties of Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity. Approximately 75% of the firm's work is in the field of insurance and public entity defense, accompanied by strong practices in municipal law, real property law, medical malpractice, commercial disputes and litigation, employment law and probate.
