David Phillips advises public and private corporations on corporate finance and securities law matters. He acts for large and small issuers and underwriters in various types of public offerings and private placements, including common and preferred shares, Canada-U.S. and London AIM financings, debentures and medium term notes, income trusts and rights offerings (including in 1997 as lead lawyer for the underwriters on the then largest initial public offering in Canadian history). David advises public corporations on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, stock option and other compensation plans, securities commission filings and dealings with stock exchanges, among other matters.
David is a regular speaker at securities conferences, Canadian Bar Association meetings and directors' education courses and is a lecturer for the Directors Education Program of the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is a past chairman of the South Alberta Business Law Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association and has been a director of a number of public companies.
Before joining Bennett Jones, David was a partner at another national law firm.
