Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach, LLP's Appellate Practice Group attorneys have substantial experience in all aspects of complex appellate litigation in both federal and state appellate courts. Our attorneys have handled more than 200 appeals in a broad variety of cases with frequent success. Several of these cases have led to groundbreaking decisions in the highest courts of New York and Connecticut. These decisions have helped to shape the law in those jurisdictions, particularly in the area of professional liability. Notably, HPM&B has been a leader in successful challenges of unqualified or unreliable medical expert testimony under Daubert and Frye and pioneered the use of bifurcation motions in medical malpractice cases.
Because our appellate attorneys also have trial experience they understand how to favorably present arguments to the trial court for later appellate review. They are particularly skilled in developing the record needed to obtain favorable results at trial, during post-trial proceedings, or ultimately on appeal. In addition to representing parties to appellate proceedings, our attorneys also represent clients who wish to participate in the appellate courts as amicus curiae. Appellate advocacy is a unique skill that combines high quality research, writing and oral advocacy with a thorough knowledge of the rules of procedure unique to the appellate courts. Our appellate attorneys are dedicated to this important specialty.
