About this firm

McIntyre, Donohue, Accardi, Salmonson, & Riordan, LLP has a long, proud history that has led to over 65 successful years of representing the hard working men and women of New York and Long Island. Formerly known as Sherman, Federman, Sambur, and McIntyre LLP, the firm is carrying on a legacy of handling each case with care, consideration, and aggressive representation.

Over the years, the firm has grown from a solo practice with one attorney and one secretary, to its present form of 7 locations, 15 full-time attorneys, a licensed Claimant’s Representative, additional attorneys “of counsel” and a staff of more than 35 dedicated paralegal and other support personnel. Each individuals’ efforts are sharply focused in the firm’s areas of practice: Workers’ Compensation Law; Social Security Disability Benefits; Municipal Pensions; Volunteer Firefighters’ Benefits Law; Volunteer Ambulance Workers’ Benefits Law; and related matters. With offices in Suffolk, Nassau, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx and White Plains, our attorneys have the ability and resources to handle the most complex cases in New York.

Our History

It all started in the 1930’s when the late Morris Feuerstein began a general practice of law in Bay Shore, Long Island. By the 1950’s Mr. Feuerstein’s practice had become primarily a Workers’ Compensation practice. In 1974, Mr. Feuerstein was joined by Benson Sherman, a popular young Workers’ Compensation Administrative Law Judge. Together they built a thriving practice, primarily in Suffolk County, representing injured workers at the Workers’ Compensation Board. Their practice resulted in the making of “new law” by virtue of the expansion of claimants’ rights under the law, based upon arguments before New York State’s highest court, the Court of Appeals. In 1982, Paul R. Federman joined the firm as a Licensed Claimant’s Representative and was made a partner in January of 1987. Robin A. Sambur joined the firm in 1990. In 1991 the firm, then operating as Sherman & Federman, merged with the Nassau County practice of Frank Samenga, a long time practitioner in Workers’ Compensation. Mrs. Sambur was named a partner of the firm in 1994, followed by Barbara Baum Levine in 1998, at which point the firm adopted its name.

All of the current partners have their roots with the Sherman, Federman, Sambur and McIntyre history. On January 1, 2001, Edward T. McIntyre was elevated to the position of partner, after starting his career at the firm in 1997. Richard W. Donohue joined the firm in 1999, and James J. Accardi joined shortly after in 2000. In 2004, both men became partners. Scott Salmonson became a partner in 2011, after working for the firm since 2005. Sean Riordan started his career at the firm in 2009 and became a partner in 2013. Reflective of the current partners, the firm officially took its present name in January of 2016.
